Do You Know What A Caracal Is?

Do you know what a Caracal is?

An unusual name and one that we are sure many people have never heard of. In My Animals we are passionate about all species, regardless of whether they are domesticated or not. Our species today has to do with one of our favorite pets. Today we are going to talk about Caracal, a very peculiar wild cat species, but that you will fall in love with when you meet him.

When we talk about cats, we think of cats, lions and tigers at most, but Caracal is also a very special feline that you have to know, although just out of curiosity, because it will be a little difficult for you to have one at home. But what should you know about Caracal?

Caracal: features

This very peculiar animal looks like a big cat with the face of a lovely kitten, but with the body of an athletic panther. Its name comes from the Turkish word “karakulak”, which means black ears.

This is because its ears are the most characteristic point of this wild but beautiful animal. The ears have pointed bumps that appear to curl around the tips and gradually darken to black. These ears make him have a very keen sense of hearing, making their main job easier: hunting.

Although he appears to have a smile drawn on his face, like sloths, their intriguing gaze simply shows that they aren’t smiling, so it’s best if you don’t go near one unless he’s domesticated.

The coat of this feline is smooth and of only one color: cinnamon. However, everyone will have black ears. This unique color in any of its specimens is very useful when camouflaging itself, since the Caracal lives in arid and desert lands, so its cinnamon color blends perfectly with the sand tone of its habitat.

We have always said that our house kittens have a great hunting instinct due to their ancestors. Caracal is one of the ancestors of our feline pet. Although on occasion they can eat rodents, the Caracal’s favorite food is birds, animals they have a special ability to hunt.

It is often said that they could often hunt up to 12 birds. Taking into account the known flight instinct that flying species have.

Despite not being one of the biggest cats (he is considered medium-sized), he is capable of achieving great speed, as the athletic body and small head that these cats have makes the task much easier.

Is it possible to tame a Caracal?

Yes, it is possible to tame a Caracal. Although there are many people who are scared to see him, because his presence and his gaze are somewhat intimidating, when they are puppies they are adorable animals and look like kittens, the most beautiful you have ever seen.

Despite its natural instincts, a Caracal can be tamed and kept at home just like any other pet. However, the animal that is brought into a home must originate from a family that has already been domesticated and that has already lived among humans.

Although when little ones look like cute kittens, we can’t be fooled, they are wild animals and should live in their habitat, like any other.

Where do the Caracais live?

This is something that will make it difficult for you to have one, unless you live on the African continent. They can be found in northern Morocco, Nigeria and Ghana, but they are not found in the center of the African continent. Even so, they have already been seen in parts of Tunisia and Ethiopia, and also in the south of the African continent.

We don’t know why this great geographical distance separates them from each other. Possibly it is because of the independent personality and because they do not want to belong to a group and this leads them to distance themselves.

There is no doubt that the Caracal is a spectacular animal and that it is worth knowing. Would you like to have one as a pet?
