A dairy brand launches a dog adoption campaign

This is news with a lot of milk. An eco-friendly dairy brand and an animal protection association have teamed up to carry out a dog adoption campaign. So, in place of the usual cows from the company’s yogurt packages, furry ones that are looking for a home appear. And some have already found it.

With the objective of “giving a face to the invisible”, the dairy products company and the “Association of friends of Canceira de Ordes”, both located in the Autonomous Community of Galicia, conceived an adoption campaign with the image of eight beautiful dogs, but with the intention of raising awareness, so that the many abandoned animals get a new family.

For this reason, through the company’s page, people are encouraged to adopt abandoned animals throughout Spain, in addition to promoting contacts with different protective associations.

It is worth remembering that, according to a report by the Affinity Foundation, although there is a downward trend in the number of abandoned animals, during 2015 104,501 dogs and 33,330 cats were collected by protective associations and animal shelters.

Meet the furry ones who star in the adoption campaign

If you are going to buy yogurt in Spain you will probably come across a picture of one of these furry ones :

  • Pipa : which was already adopted by a Dutch family (social networks do not know borders).
  • Bruno : a very sociable two year old male.
  • Morpheus : who is in an animal shelter.
  • Jimmy : a young male, Beagle mongrel , very quiet.
  • Lissy : a 4 year old female, playful, sweet and sociable.
  • Orion : a two year old male, neutered and very friendly with other dogs and children.
  • Truffle : a calm and affectionate female who has also found a new home.
  • Sil : who was found in a gutter and who, little by little, was regaining confidence in human beings.

How did this original adoption campaign come about

The idea of stamping the images of the dogs on the yogurt packages came from Jessica Rei who, in addition to working at the dairy products company, is a member of the Galician protective association.

Inspired by the American campaigns to search for missing persons who use Tetra Brik, she began to research more about the topic.

So, she discovered that a Los Angeles soda brand found a home for more than 100 dogs, putting pictures of the furry ones in their bottles. She went to work until she made the adoption campaign a reality.

An initiative to create awareness in children

But the joint work of the dairy company and the protective association is not just about this interesting campaign for the adoption of homeless dogs.

They also work in primary schools, with a program to teach children to be responsible and supportive of animals.

The initiative is called “Um dog, um amigo” and, during 2016, it has already reached seven educational centers and more than 800 students in the municipality of Ordes.

Possibly, if from an early age, humans begin to understand that animals have rights and that they should be treated well, the next generations will be better than the current ones.

Hopefully the adoption campaign on ecological yogurt packaging and the educational program are added to many other new and good initiatives that encourage people to incorporate abandoned pets into their human families.

So if your plans include having a pet, seriously consider adoption. And remember that owning a pet involves a number of responsibilities that cannot be overlooked. Between them:

  • Feeding according to the characteristics of the furry
  • Periodic health checks
  • Vaccines
  • tours
  • jokes
  • Hygiene (baths, brushing, etc.)

There are many animals that are waiting for a second chance and that are willing to offer all their love and to become a great company. Don’t deprive them of it.
